Happy Birthday, Blog!

It’s been a year since I started this, a year since I hunched over my computer during a study hall, growling and grumbling as I waged an epic battle with the fearsome foe known as ‘technology,’ a year since I decided it was about time I had an ‘author platform’ and could wait no longer.

Was this exactly what I envisioned at first? No, but things usually aren’t.

For one, I thought I’d be a lot funnier. Instead I turned philosophic — not that that’s bad. For another, book reviews were sorta on my mind, but not really a part of the plan until suddenly they were and I had an alternating schedule I quite liked. It just goes to show that plans change.

For another, I thought I’d perhaps be more encouraging, instead of spending as much time as I do criticizing things. Now, does evil need to be pointed out and challenged? Certainly, but that is not all. Words that heal and encourage and inspire are also needed. It’s that thermostat-thermometer principle. The Proverbs compare good speech to a tree of life, or a drink of cool water. For when my words have been bitter vinegar or a blunt baseball bat instead, I apologize. My mission is to speak the truth in love, and in so doing to build up the body of Christ and encourage non-believers toward the truth.

However, I’m not going to spend this entire post analyzing my own feelings and expectations and what-have-you. This isn’t about me. I’m just a beginning blogger, and I haven’t really got any advice, except that words are more powerful and lasting than you think, so make sure they count.

What I do have, though, is thanks.

Thank you to my thirty-three faithful subscribers, for choosing to read my random thoughts, for putting up with the less-than-appropriate ads I’ve been fighting to remove, and for showing support through your words and likes. I know some of you personally and would mention you, along with the specific aid you gave in the building, writing, and editing of the content on here, but I will err on the side of internet safety and refrain from saying names. But the ones who were my tech support, my first eyes, my meticulous editors unafraid to say the harsh things — you know who you are, and thank you.

Thank you to God, for giving me so much inspiration, so many ideas, and thank you for the capacity to write words in which to frame them. I may not always succeed, but my goal is to write these things for Your glory.

And, to the random reader who has just happened to come across this, thank you for giving the blog a chance. I hope I can touch you or encourage you or inspire you, or at least help you find your next read.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this.

Cheers.
