Shining for Christmas

Alright, folks, I’ll keep this short and sweet. It’s Christmas and there’s a lot to do and you’ve got a ton on your plates. But even amid the chaos, remember that Christmas is one of the seasons in which we can shine the brightest. And this can be done in so many ways, from proudly displaying a nativity scene outside your house to showing hospitality to the pack of relatives invading your peace, and from passing on the Christmas story to stubbornly refusing to join the world in its all-inclusive, extra-tolerant “Happy Holidays’s” and condoning of what is clearly wicked. Even during this season with all its lights and joy and goodwill, we still see the darkness creeping in. Gay men pose and hug in gift commercials. Our government plunges even further down the tubes. The situation in Israel is still heartbreaking. And you may relate with this yourself. Maybe not everything is merry and bright this Christmas season. If so, you have my prayers.

No matter what the case is for you this season, dear reader, shine. Shine bright. The darker the shadows, the more need there is for light. Now is your chance to witness to that neighbor, now is the chance to show God’s love to a difficult family member, now is the time to breathe and rest in His peace. Now is the time to be grateful, to remember God’s coming down to earth in the form of a helpless human child, and to look ahead to the day when Jesus died on the cross for us, and gave us the comission to go into all the world and proclaim the Gospel until He comes.

Shine brilliantly today, my friends. Have a blessed Christmas.
